The Census dictionary is an on-line tool which:

• translates Census terms from English to Welsh and from Welsh to English
• provides Census definitions for commonly used Census words
• searches for all other Census phrases that contain the same words.

Many of the terms in the Census easily translate in to Welsh, but other terms are more ‘specialised’. The purpose of this dictionary is to help translate Census terms in a consistent manner. These terms have been translated in conjunction with the Office for National Statistics and have been agreed by a group of people from the Welsh Language Board, the National Assembly for Wales and the Data Unit.

The dictionary can also be used as a tool to search for definitions of Census terms. This will be useful to those who are interpreting Census results as well as those who are producing bilingual Census publications or web pages.
