Summary statistics

To provide some top tips, tools and resources to help you summarise data and provide easy to understand statistics.

A summary statistic is a calculation performed on a dataset to describe its characteristics. For example, mean, median, mode, minimum, maximum, range, standard deviation are all examples of summary statistics. Summary statistics are often used to investigate and describe data. They are the building blocks of most quantitative analysis.

Our training course gives practical advice and guidance to help you understand how to summarise your data into easy-to-digest statistics.

By the end of the course you will understand:

  • how to interpret summary statistics
  • the most common statistical measures
  • how they can be calculated and when they should be used.
